WHAT TO EXPECT

INITIAL ASSESSMENT (90 MIN)
I will ask A LOT of questions.
Please be honest. I have been doing nutrition counseling for eating disorders for a very long time. There isn’t anything you can say that I haven’t heard at least 30 times before.
This appointment helps me get to know your background with food, body, and physical activity and what you’re hoping to get out of our appointments. You will leave this appointment with some basic education and a few initial recommendations to get you going.
Most people tell me they’re a little nervous for this one. I get that. Please know that while I am a clinician, I am more just another human who wants you to feel seen, heard, and supported.

FOLLOW UPS (30-55 MIN)
Nutrition counseling follow ups will be tailored entirely to you and your goals.
Examples of things we may touch on along the way:

Nutrition needs that are specific to your life stage and/or unique health conditions

Decreasing eating disorder/disordered eating behaviors and body checking
-
Intuitive eating and intuitive physical activity/body movement
-

Shifting your behaviors in a way that will help you move towards YOUR values, not societal standards
-
Challenging negative food/body thought patterns

TEAM COLLABORATION
If requested, I will coordinate your care with your other healthcare team members such as primary care providers, OB-GYN, psychiatrists, therapists, etc.
Please know that in cases of active eating disorders, I may require that you
are also working with an experienced mental health professional in order to work with me.
ABOVE ALL...
I understand that there is often a lot of shame, guilt, and embarrassment wrapped up in our food behaviors and how we feel about our bodies. One of my biggest goals is to offer a space that feels safe and non-judgmental, regardless of what you’re bringing into the room. In my office, you can expect to find the expertise gained through years of experience provided within an environment of unconditional respect, compassion, and empathy.
